Trailblazing filmmaker Bill Duke receives a special film salute at ARRAY with a day-long marathon screening of work from his directorial canon.
A welcome addition to the classic gangster-style genre, HOODLUM, follows Bumpy Johnson, played by Laurence Fishburne in one of many Bill Duke collaborations, as he returns to his criminal ways after a stint in jail in a 1930’s Harlem. As his friends and girlfriend try to get him on a path back to the straight and narrow, a rival gangster threatens to upend everything Bumpy has built.
This screening is accompanied by a not-to-miss, post-screening fireside chat between Mr. Bill Duke and ARRAY founder and filmmaker Ava DuVernay.
